ALLIES - defeat
The British broke through the German lines in this battle, using revolutionary approaches to the artillery and methods of attack. They began relying heavily on tanks and aircraft which ultimately gave them the edge in this battle. The Chief of the Tank Corps was the person who came up with the idea of using this type of artillery and armor to invade the German lines. His plan was to only attack the areas of Germany with terrain that was hard, dry and would cope with the weight of the tanks. The attack began with a surprise bombardment following with the tanks crushing through the German defence barbed wires. They then used open fire. The British were so far ahead that it would not have been anyone’s guess that the Germans would pull through but their planning pulled them through. The Germans came up with an idea to move only small groups that could bypass through the British strong points and make larger gains. This kept happening until the British were forced to abandon the eastern areas and finally surrender.
