World War 1 officially began on the 28th of July, 1914 with the assassination of the Archduke of Austria, and ended on the 11th of November, 1918 which is now known as Remembrance Day. Over 30 countries took part in this global war and over 15 million died as a result. Two forces fought in this war and they were the Axis powers (the main alliance was between Germany, Turkey, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary and Japan) and the Allied powers (the main alliance was between Britain, France, Russia, Greece, Serbia, Italy (from 1915) and USA (from 1917)). There were Key Battles throughout the war that had positive and negative impacts on the Allies and their chance at victory. This website will briefly explain the Key Battles and the effect on the Allies in war.
